February 26, 2007 We are in the throws of filing our 1023 form to apply for federal non-profit 501(c)3 status. Anyone who has tried to do this can understand why it has taken us months to get the paperwork completed and anyone who hasn't, well, it is a 27 page form that is submitted to the IRS. Enough said. We have a new webmaster, who will keep up with changes to our schedule but not necessarily update this blog, unless we have significant news (like approval of our non-profit status)
September 3, 2007 We filed in June and have gotten the form back asking for more money. It seems that the only change from the old form to the new one was the cost of filing. So we have filled out the new form and will be sending off the paperwork this week. With any luck, they will be just as quick to send us our official non-profit status. We have also had a couple of scheduled festivals drop out, so the month of September is looking much less crowded. We lost our piper, Richard Bell, on July 16th, which has been quite a blow to many of us. There is a small tribute to him in our Gallery.
December 21, 2007 We did it! We are now officially a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, able to accept charitable, tax-deductable contributions. If you are interested in making a charitable donation to our organization, please contact us here. July 28, 2008 Another milestone reached! We have applied to the SCFD and they have responded. No money this year but if we finish some minor paperwork and attend a grant writing seminar, then we have a shot at some for next year.
